7th November 2020 South Shields – Fog on the Tyne & Sunshine

After yesterday’s grey start, we were hoping for a little sunshine today. The Gods smiled on us, and although a little chilly, the sun was shining, so we decided to hop on the ferry to South Shields.

I took a couple of pictures of the buildings on the New Quay on our way to the ferry landing. I love these old buildings, but always have a problem with the perspective, i.e. vertical lines converging. I’ve rectified them using Gimp, and am happy with the result, but I know opinion is divided.

The Tyne was slightly foggy today, which gave some lovely photos of the cranes up-river and the sun glistening off the water.

We walked along the shopping street down to the pier and the beach. The pier was closed (strange as people are being encouraged to exercise during lockdown) but the beach was quite busy, and the view up the coast enhanced by the haziness.

In the park, there were the usual gulls, ducks, swans and geese on the boating lake, enjoying the autumn sunshine.

We walked back along the Tyne, enjoying the view across to our home of North Shields.

A very nice end to our week’s leave. We were supposed to be visiting Canterbury (cancelled), the Blackpool (cancelled) and then lockdown, but we’ve made the most of it.
