6th November 2020 St Mary’s Island – Seals, birds and grey skies

Today started out very foggy, so we decided to not go far from home as the weather did not look too promising. Plus the leg is still not sorted, so longs walks are out of the question.

St Mary’s Island is just up the coast at Whitley Bay. The island and it’s lighthouse are a good location for bird and seal watching, and we weren’t disappointed today.

There were a number of seals basking on the rocks, and many birds, including the common redshank, oystercatcher and heron.

The lighthouse is in desperate need of repainting, but I’m sure the council will say the money is needed elsewhere.
