27th September 2020 North Shields – High tides and rough seas

A walk on a chilly day in North Shields/Tynemouth. The wind wasn’t high, but the tide was, making waves crash against the rocks and piers. On the Tyne, a cormorant was fishing.

In Northumberland Park, lots of berries were out on the trees, including the holly. A reminder of the changing season. The trees are sloling losing their summer glow and fading into the golden shades of autumn.

On our way home, we noticed the wooden dolly has been placed back on her pedestal in the centre of Northumberland Park. She’s been away for some time, being restored after decades exposed to the Shields weather. I hadn’t realised before the restoration that she was made by Robert Thompson, the famous Mouseman (and restored in the workshop that still bears his name). And sure enough, on her back is the famous mouse.
