4th October 2020 Warkworth – a walk along a very swollen River Coquet

After the torrential rain all day on Saturday, we decided it was time to get out of the house. It’s a while since we had been to Warkworth, and as the best weather was promised north, that’s where we headed.

We parked in the English Heritage car park, but decided not to visit the castle this time.

We headed down the river, and it soon became evident just how much rain had fallen on Saturday. The river Coquet was very swollen, muddy and brown, carrying large branches and tree trunks down river towards amble.

The ducks and a solitary swan took refuge in a slow moving part of the river, not daring to venture further.

Lunch by the river, a walk to the bridge and an amble up the main street. A very pleasant Sunday.
