We’ve really missed Beamish, the open-air museum in Country Durham. So when it was announced they were re-opening, we were first in the queue for tickets!

The weather was baking hot, with not a cloud in sight. This is a rarity, as I think every other time I’ve visited it’s been cold/windy/raining.

Making the best of the reduced numbers due to social distancing, we set off to enjoy the museum in peace.

Here are the highlights of this visit.

Up at the 1940s farm, we sat underneath an apple tree to have lunch. In the dappled sunlight of the summer afternoon, it was sheer bliss. Nearby were two lambs sharing a field with chickens. One was happy to allow us to pet it.

Outside the stables in the 1900s town, 2 horses were having new shoes fitted. It was a great opportunity to see a farrier at work.

There is a lot of development work ongoing on the site, and it will be interesting to see how this progresses over the coming years.
