Toy Shop

Toy shop, South Shields Museum & Art Gallery

Toy shop, about 1960 Janet Anderson from Whitburn remembers the Dee Bee Super Store as “One of the best presents I’ve ever had. I remember playing for hours and hours”. Janet would make her purchases with real money, handing over her pennies and ha’pennies to the “shopkeeper” (her mam Joyce). Janet and her mam would then open up the little packets of Pearce Duff’s custard powder to make trifles or fruit and custard. “I’ll never forget such wonderful memories of Dee Bee Super Store and my mam”.
