The Magdalene Jug

The Magdalene Jug in St Lawrence church, Warkworth, Northumberland.

These fragments of a 13th century jug were found outside the north wall of the garderobe during the 1977 excavations of the Chapel at Magdalene Fields.
It would have been used for ale or water, and is decorated with a bearded face, a horseshoe, pellets and notched strips.

The Church of St Lawrence is situated in the village of Warkworth in Northumberland. It is a grade I listed building within the Diocese of Newcastle and dedicated to Lawrence of Rome.
