South Shields weather vane

Above the clock and belfry on top of the tower of the South Shields Town Hall is a weather vane in the pattern of an Elizabethan Galleon. The pure copper galleon weighs 1¼cwt and is 4’6″ long with a 2′ bowsprit making the overall length 6’6″ and is 7′ high from keel to top of the main mast. The original cost of the Galleon was £108.
