Santi Giovanni e Reparata

The church of Saints John and Reparata is a church of Lucca located in Piazza San Giovanni.

The first seat of the bishops of the diocese, when the dignity of a cathedral at the beginning of the 8th century was transferred to San Martino, the right to the baptismal font remained and this made the relationship between the two sacred buildings very close. At the beginning of the nineteenth century the church was indemnified by the Napoleonic government, deprived of its furnishings and destined to house the archives of the ancient Republic. In 1828 it was reopened for worship, but in a very changed situation. The current structure dates back mostly to the reconstruction of the second half of the twelfth century, but its origins are much older.
