Palazzo Mosca

Palazzo Mosca, Pisa, Italy

Palazzo Mosca in Pisa is located on Lungarno Gambacorti 2-3 and on via Toselli.

A document from 1302 recalls how in the place where the palace stands today, the rich merchant Mosca from San Gimignano had his sumptuous domus built, merging and renovating some older buildings that he had purchased.

The profiles of the pillars and stone arches which are the backbone of the building can still be seen on the façade: a large all-way arch in brick, on pillars in verrucana stone, flanked by a pointed arch in stone, all resting on the lowered arches of the first floor attic (traces of a terracotta one show the ring decorated in relief). The windows, with frames decorated with volutes, are more recent, while on Via Toselli you can still see the outlines of the ancient openings which have now been blocked up, such as a four-light window.
