John Leslie by Allan Ramsay

The sitter in this portrait has recently been identified as John Leslie, 10th Earl of Rothes and is a copy of a painting which hangs at Mellerstain House in Scotland. He was the eldest son of the 9th Earl, whom he succeeded in 1722. From 1723 to 1734 and from 1747 until his death in 1767 he was a Scottish Representative Peer in the House of Lords. He died on 10 December 1767 and is buried at Leslie House, Aberdeenshire.
