Entrance To Sunderland Harbour

‘Entrance To Sunderland Harbour’ By John Wilson Carmichael (1800-1868)

This painting is influenced by the ships and boats which ferried pilots to and from them at the mouth of the Wear. The artist, Carmichael, was born in Newcastle. He began exhibiting in 1825. In 1846 he moved to London where he worked successfully until 1862. I found this painting interesting as it focuses heavily on the history of Sunderland. I liked this as it is a local city in the North East, and this painting adds to the regions culture.
