A Street Scene, 1962
L S, Lowry (1887-1976) Oil painting

In the 1940s Lowry’s almost obsessive interest in industrial landscapes began to lessen. In his paintings people now started to emerge from the crowd and become the centre of attention. They were often social misfits, painted without sentiment and sometimes with a touch of humour.
