3rd September 2023 Allen Banks & Staward Gorge – Our First Visit

Our first visit to Allen Banks & Staward Gorge, a National Trust property in Northumberland.

It was a lovely sunny day for a 5 mile walk (in fact, it was too hot and exhausted us)

We too the path high above the River Allen, coming across some interesting fungi and catching some great views from the Summerhouse.

Descending down at Plankey Mill, we crossed the river and headed toward the steep ascent to the pele tower.

Boy was the path steep, but we were afforded some great views gf the gorge.

We will no-doubt be returning, on a crisp winters day next time I think, when the ascent won’t be quite as taxing.
