23rd August 2020 Bolam and Belsay – Back in the hall and swans galore!

A bit of a chilly day today, but needed to get out of the house so Bolam Lake seemed the best bet for a spot of fresh air.

It was a good decision! There are dozens of swans on the lake at the moment, and they are all too happy to pose for the camera. Parts of the lake are covered in duckweed, and the swans are making the most of it.

We saw a swan with a large cygnet, and wondered is it was one of the ones we saw back in June (view photographs here ). If so there was no sight of the others so maybe only one survived.

On the way home we dropped into Belsay Hall and Castle, as you know one of our favourites.

The replanted gardens are starting to fill out, the sunshine and copious amounts if rain have certainly helped.

The hall is back open to visit (ground floor only) and the social distancing presented a great opportunity to photograph some of the rooms people free.
