A three-quarter-length portrait of the 1st Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside, standing, turned slightly to the left, looking at the viewer, wearing a forage cap and cloak over Northumberland Hussars mess dress, holding a stick and gloves in his left hand.

Provenance: Presumably painted for the 1st Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1863-1941) in 1911; thence by descent; transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 – 1987).
