<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Oil painting on canvas, William Henry Armstrong Fitzpatrick Watson-Armstrong, 1st Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1863-1941) in Forage Cap and Cloak over Northumberland Hussars Mess Dress, by Thomas Bowman Garvie (Morpeth 1859 – Northumberland 1934), signed and dated, bottom left: T. B. Garvie 1911. A three-quarter-length portrait of the 1st Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside, standing, turned slightly to the left, looking at the viewer, wearing a forage cap and cloak over Northumberland Hussars mess dress, holding a stick and gloves in his left hand.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Provenance: Presumably painted for the 1st Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1863-1941) in 1911; thence by descent; transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 &#8211; 1987).</p>
