<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Mrs Katherine Vulliamy by Sir John Lavery (1856-1941)</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">John Lavery came to prominence in Glasgow, where he was involved with the artists known as the &#8216;Glasgow Boys&#8217;. He became widely known and later moved to London. He was elected a Royal Scottish Academician in 1896.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Lavery was an Irish artist who became a leading portrait painter, in London, He was an official artist in the First World War and knighted after the war, In London he became friendly with James MeNeill Whistler, During this time, Lavery and his wife Hazel gave over the use of their London home to Irish negotiators during talks that led to the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty in 1921, The Treaty saw an end to the Irish War of Independence,</p>
