Wootton fect. 1759. Four dogs, usually known as poodles, more recently as bichons or ‘Bolognaisie’ dogs from Bologna in Italy, their names, Lusette, Madore, Rosette and Mouche are inscribed on a lawn between the base of a column at the left and the urn depicting a scene of a sacrifice in relief, on which is perched an alarmed jay, at the right.

Provenance: Given with the property to the National Trust in 1941 by Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan, 3rd Bt (1870-1958)
