The Duke is represented on horseback as Commander-in-Chief, wearing his Field Marshal’s uniform, with the Orders of the Garter, St Patrick, St Michael and St George, and the Bath, together with the Jubilee, Coronation, Crimean, and French and Turkish medals. His baton is copied from the baton presented by William IV to the Duke’s father. The elegant neo-baroque pedestal is curved at front and back, where it bears low-relief full-length figures: at the front a soldier of the 17th Lancers, at the back a Grenadier Guard.
