Hannah Hauxwell’s Strippy Quilt

Made by Elizabeth Bayles Hauxwell of Hunderthwaite, Upper Teasdale, 1880s (fabrics c, 1860)

Printed cottons, reverse plain cotton, edges bound in wool braid with initials E.B. embroidered on reverse.

Strip quilting design including Cable Twist, Worm, Bellows and Aquare Diamond infill.

Purchased at auction for the museum with funds from Mary Gullick with help from additional private donors.
