Dukes of Cumberland and Gloucester, 1834

Caricature statuette of the Dukes of Cumberland and Gloucester at Bowes Museum, Co. Durham.

The statuette depicts two men, the Duke of Gloucester on the left and the Duke of Cumberland on the right. Within the caricature statuette facial features are exaggerated. Gloucester has round protuberant eyes and bulging cheeks, whereas Cumberland has enormous eyebrows and a moustache. Dantan produced many such statuettes of French nobles. This one is unusual, featuring the elderly sons of George III.
