Ralph Hedley (1848-1913)

These two men are sawing planks, using a huge two-handled saw and a saw pit. Behind them is a shelter to protect the cut planks while they season in the open air, so that they won’t warp in use. The children have come to gather firewood. The boy is wearing a Northumberland beret.
