The Scotch Koh-i-Noor

London, England

The Scotch Koh-i-Noor at The Natural History Museum, South Kensington, London, England

This colourless beryl has a peculiar history. In 1877, Nature magazine described it as the ‘Scotch Koh-i-Noor.
Despite claims it came from Scotland, no other similar specimens have ever been recorded as having a similar origin.
When or why it gained its Scottish origin story is unknown.
Perhaps this, along with its choice name, were ploys devised by its owner to add interest and grandeur to the remarkable gem.
