Cenotaph, Oban, Scotland
From the Imperial War Museum:
Two Highlanders carrying a wounded comrade between them, on a base of rough boulders, a separate WW1 and WW2 plaque on each face. Contemporary photographs show that the lettering was not originally was gold, it is not known when this change was made. This is what draws the eye now as you approach the memorial, rather than Carrick’s emphasis of the Highlanders against the dramatic mountain backdrop.
