Sir William Blackett, 1st Bt

attributed to Enoch Seeman the younger (c.1694 – 1744)

Oil painting on canvas, Sir William Blackett, 1st Bt (c.1667-d.1705), attributed to Enoch Seeman the younger (Gdańsk c.1694 – London 1744), inscribed: in 18th C with name of sitter, bottom right: 1st: Sr: Wm: Blackett/of Wallington/b./Bart: 1684/d.1705. A three-quarter-length portrait of a youngish man, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a blue coat and brown cloak, his left arm resting on a plinth.

Provenance: Given with the property to the National Trust in 1941 by Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan, 3rd Bt (1870 – 1958)

Marks and inscriptions: Back of frame (top center): English but illegible W.Cloaks possibly Bottom right front of canvas: later inscription with name of sitter Back of frame top right: Letter X
