The “Trow Point gun” in South Shields is a historical site featuring a replica of a late-Victorian “disappearing gun”. It was based on a concept from the Crimean War that allowed the gun to lower into a turret for reloading, protecting the gunners. While a replica is in place, the original trials for this type of weapon were conducted at this location in the 1880s
