Lady with a Fan by Georges Croegaert, “The National Gallery Masterpiece Tour, Mignard: The Power of Posing” at South Shields Museum and Art Gallery

Charles Wynne Nicholls was born in Dublin in 1831. He studied art at the Royal Dublin Society’s Schools and the Royal Hibernian Academy, and began exhibiting his work from 1859. Nicholls moved to London in 1864. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and also continued to show his work back in Dublin. Nicholls mainly painted portraits, though he also produced landscape pictures.
