This 1845 work depicts an iron mine in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. At the time, the iron mining industry was at its peak. The watercolour emphasises the scale of the rock surrounding the group of miners and the intimidating darkness of the tunnel entrance we see behind them.n.
