General Freddie Graham (I908-1988) was commissioned into The Argylls in I929, serving in China and India. In the 2nd World War, he saw service in North Africa, Crete, Syria and India. He commanded the Ist Battalion in the Italian Campaign 1944-45, gaining his DSO. He commanded 40th Infantry Division as a Brigadier, before being appointed GOC 5Ist (Highland) Division between I959-62. He was Colonel Commandant of the Scottish Division I968-69 and Honorary Colonel of The Argylls of Canada I972-77. He was Lord Lieutenant of Stirling & Falkirk between 1979-83.
