Appointed Colonel-in-Chief by king George Vl on her 21* birthday in 1947, The Argylls have enjoyed a close association with The Queen ever since. This picture depicts her in the robes of the Most Ancient and Noble Order of the Thistle, wearing her Argyll brooch, presented by the Regiment on 15 July I947. Throughout her time as Colonel-in-Chief she has made regular visits to the various units of her Regiment and has witnessed many of the great regimental occasions. In March 2006 she became Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and Royal Colonel of the 5%h Battalion, The Argylls’ successors.
