Enoch Seeman the younger (c.1694 – 1744)

Oil painting on canvas, Isabella Blackett, later Countess of Buchan (d.1763) by Enoch Seeman the younger (Gdańsk c.1694 – London 1744), circa 1740. NOT Julia Blackett, Lady Calverley (1686-1736) by Thomas Gainsborough RA (Sudbury 1727 – London 1788). Inscribed (erroneously): later 18th C with name of sitter, bottom left: Iulia, Lady Calverley, Dr: of 1st: Sr: Wim Blackett,/of Wallington,/b.1688./m.1706 Sr: Wr: Calverley./d.1736. A three-quarter-length portrait of a young woman seated, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a brown dress with striped bodice in blue, and blue bows; lace at neck and wrists; left hand on plinth.

Provenance: Given with the property to the National Trust in 1941 by Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan, 3rd Bt (1870 – 1958)
