Sir John Trevelyan

George Romney (1734 – 1802)

Oil painting on canvas, Sir John Trevelyan, 4th Bt (1734-1828) by George Romney (Dalton-in-Furness 1734 – Kendal 1802), 1784/88. Full-length portrait, wearing a red coat, white waist coat and white stockings. His left hand is resting outstretched on a plinth, and holding a hat. His right hand is on his hip.

Prevenance: The picture was originally at Nettlecombe, the family’s earlier home in Somerset (Sir John owned Wallington for over fifty years from 1777 to 1828); acquired with assistance from the National Art Collections Fund and members of the Trevelyan family, 1991
