Label in 19th century ink on paper, now attached to front reads: Probably William Marshall m. Elizabeth. 2nd d. of Sir William Blackett. Bart. A three-quarter-length portrait of a man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, in a dark brown full-bottomed wig and wearing a red cloak over classical dress, lace cravat, his left hand on his hip; landscape at left.
Provenance: Given with the property to the National Trust in 1941 by Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan, 3rd Bt (1870-1958)
