James Millar Brown (1856 – 1908)

Currently featured in the exhibition “The Art of Conservation – damaged painting at South Shields” – Conservation, South Shields Museum and Art Gallery

James Miller Brown had his studio in South Shields, but for a short period also worked in Newcastle. He mainly produced landscapes and coastal scenes of the local area and wider region. The museum holds several of Brown’s works, plus as sketchbook and a treatise on drawing and painting.
