Hefty Thomas Schafer was a British painter and sculptor, elected in 1889 to the Royal Society of British Artists, From 1873 onwards he exhibited at the Royal Society, the Royal Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy, and other galleries.
Because of the similarity in their names and their overlapping period of active work, the townscape paintings of the French artist Henri Schafer (1833 —1916), who also spent part of his life in Britain. are often misattributed to Henry Schafer, and their biographical details are occasionally merged, However, their styles are quite different
