Oil painting on canvas, Sir William George Armstrong, later 1st Baron Armstrong of Cragside (1810-1900) aged 21, by James Ramsay (Newcastle-upon-Tyne 1786 – Newcastle-upon-Tyne 1854), signed and dated 1830. A portrait of Lord Armstrong as a young man, half-length, turned to the right, wearing a black jacket, white shirt and black cravat, with indications of a landscape in the background.
Provenance: From the collection of BAE Systems (formerly Alvis Vickers Limited). On loan to the National Trust since 1991.
