This work looks back to ancient Greek sculptures of athletes and soldiers, their bodies turned to show their muscles. It was bought from the artist whilst working as master of sculpture at Armstrong College (now Newcastle University)- John Reid also made several public sculptures in the North East. These include the statue of St George beside St Thomas’s Church at Newcastle Haymarket.
