Shipwreck / The Final Wave (Emilio Ocon y Rivas (1845-1904) 1893, oil on canvas) in the Museum of Málaga, Spain.
The romantic drama of this scene, with the foundering schooner and the desperate landing of the lifeboat, made this work of the Malaga-born artist’s most popular compositions. It was purchased from the painter’s widow by the National Museum of Modern Art after a posthumous exhibition held in 1904 and sent to Malaga on long-term loan in 1971.
