Ok, I get it,, this doesn’t sound like the most exciting exhibition you’ve ever heard of. But bear with me. This collection is amazing!

We tried to see it on my birthday, but it was unfortunately closed 🙁 I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

Torre del Mar will host a unique exhibition in Spain with 2,000 plates from around the world

The exhibition can be visited free of charge at the Old Sugar Factory in Torre del Mar starting next Saturday.

Starting next Saturday, October 29, Torre del Mar will host an exhibition that covers centuries of history of an appliance as widespread today as irons for straightening clothes, bringing together a total of 2,000 pieces from different historical periods and countries. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Torre del Mar and Councilor for Tourism, JesĂșs PĂ©rez Atencia, who reported that “this exhibition will be open to the public free of charge at the Old Sugar Factory of Torre del Mar, from Tuesday to Sunday, during 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Deputy Mayor of Torre del Mar, JesĂșs PĂ©rez Atencia, explained that “it is a centennial collection of Pierre Lachnowicz, a French businessman residing in Torre del Mar who has temporarily ceded his collection to the City Council, considered to be the largest in Spain and one of the best in Europe, with irons from all over the world”.

“After a long time working from the Office of the Mayor of Torre del Mar and the Tourism area, we present the Irons of the World exhibition, which is among the best in Europe, since the irons are arranged in showcases by periods of years, centuries and countries. That is why, one of the best exhibitions of irons, to show a pedagogical document of the Industrial Revolution”, said the Deputy Mayor of Torreño.

The Councilor for Tourism, JesĂșs PĂ©rez Atencia, explained that “the showcases on display are accompanied by explanatory posters and photographs to make them more attractive to visitors. Also, a screen has been arranged with a video that illustrates the use of the irons, so that all those who delve into the history of this appliance understand the uniqueness and all the curiosities that this magnificent sample contains.

Types of irons and curiosities

The exhibition collects irons from all over the world totally unknown to the public. They can be seen from the ancient Chinese or Egyptian irons – who ironed with their feet and still do -, the first stone irons to smooth clothes that date back to the year 1400, those that were used with a hot ingot like this such as those that feed on gasoline, alcohol or gas. Belgian and French irons from the 17th and 18th centuries, the beautiful irons from Germany and Austria, those that are heated with embers in the shape of animals or the flat ones from the first foundries and electric ones.

In it, you can see an iron that belonged to the English Royalty and one of the most valuable, gasoline and from Sweden, dated around the year 1870. The sample also includes the first wood washers, stoves, iron holders, documents , as well as small sculptures by Paco MartĂ­n and Casamayor.

PĂ©rez Atencia recalled that “the Iron Sheets of the World exhibition opens tomorrow, Friday the 28th, at 7:00 p.m., at the Old Sugar Factory in Torre del Mar, and that from Saturday the 29th it will be open to the public.”

“A total of 2,000 irons that make this sample something exceptional” he added.
