10th/11th September 2021 Teignmouth & Buckfast Abbey: The Familiar & The New

We were supposed to go for the cream tea today, but we had that yesterday after Plymouth. They had booked all three coaches in for the cream tea today (there isn’t room for that many people) so ours was moved, leaving this morning free for another excursion.

We have been to Teignmouth before, but it’s a lovely place so we were happy to be back again. We had a stroll along the front and a trip along the pier, although most of this was closed off for renevations. Like most piers, it is well past its glory days.

The afternoon was a trip to Buckfast Abbey. We haven’t been here before so I was looking forward to it. Very interesting to see an abbey church from the early 20th century rather than the usual medieval examples. The church is set in nice grounds but it is quite commercialised, and of course you can get some “wreck the hoose juice” in the gift shop if you like.

A final visit to Scoopy Doo’s Ice Cream Parlour. We will miss this place.

Todays flavours: Ian – Double-choc chip, Laurie – Honeycomb (a surprise!)

I took a few photo’s on the phone the next morning as the sea was so beautiful, before setting off home.
