23rd January 2021 North Shields – Now it’s really cold, and doesn’t the wildlife know it!

The weather is very cold and frosty this weekend, great weather for walking in.

I often take a picture from outside the registry office across to South Shields, as I like the different skies and colours depending on the weather and time of year. So it’s easier to compare, I’ve tagged them together as That SS Shot. I hope this turns into an interesting series.

The pond at Northumberland Park was largely frozen over, meaning that there were only two mallards, two moorhens and a water rail. I assume the rest have left to find a larger stretch of water. I did have bird seed with me and they were grateful for it. Food must be in short supply.

As I walked out of the park, I happened upon a bird I had’t seen before, a mistle thrush. This is a rare bird in the UK so I was very happy to see it. You never know what you will find in this park.
