16th January 2021 North Shields – Kingfisher alert, I got lucky!

Still in lockdwon, and the first walk for a couple of weeks.

The cruise ship Azura came into the Tyne yesterday, with 130 crew from Southampton as there is no space down there. It is docked at Northumbrian Quay for a few months so plenty of chances for photographs.

Walking along Tyne Street, there was a little pied wagtail hopping around the path. Always nice to see these birds.

Northumberland Park has a regular visitor, but I’ve never had the opportunity to see it (too many dogs and kids usually). However, today I was lucky. A few people alerted me on the way into the park. And there it was! A beautiful Kingfisher sitting on the fence around the pond. I’ve never seen one before so this was a real treat for me. I couldn’t get that close (I have a 70-300mm lens) which was a shame but it was so nice to see it at last.
